St. Lucias Friday nights are buzzing, whether youre listening to music at the Gros Islet Jump-Up or sampling fresh seafood at the community fish fry street party in the charmingly ramshackle seaside village of Anse La Raye. Seafood vendors bring their pots and pans to the streets for this popular waterfront event, launched in 2000. Here you can sample such seafood delights as grilled Caribbean lobster and grilled or fried fish (snapper or dorado, fishcakes, conch, and more). Wash it down with icy Piton beers, also sold from vendors right on Front Street, which on Friday evenings is closed off to vehicles, with tables and tents set up on the street. The accompanying musical entertainment might be a live calypso or reggae band, or recorded music blasting from speakers.
