The longest running street party in St. Lucia, the Gros Islet Friday Night Street Party is a hot spot for locals and tourists alike, with the pulsating rhythms of calypso, zouk, reggae and R&B echoing from the speakers. The street party starts around 9pm with a friendly, holiday atmosphere in the crowded streets. People wander from bar to bar, drinking, mingling, dancing and just enjoying the scene. Activity tends to pick up before midnight and the party keeps going well into the early hours of Saturday morning. In order to avoid dancing on an empty stomach, a variety of street vendors sell the local dishes, including barbecued chicken, pork and sea food. Baked goods, roast corn, fresh fruit and peanuts are also available.
