Soufriere, nicknamed the old lady, is an active volcano located in the territory of the municipality of Saint-Claude in Guadeloupe, in the national park of the same name in the south of the island of Basse-Terre. The city of Basseterre, capital of the department overseas, is ten kilometers south-west and the Carbet waterfalls on its eastern flank. It is the only active volcano on the island, currently under eruptive resting state. Soufriere is part of a set consisting of volcanic volcanoes Carmichael, Nose Broken, Scale, Cistern and the Madeleine. This is one of the nine active volcanoes of the Lesser Antilles.
